Mathew, Knight. "Making electric cars safe and sound." CNN. N.p., 09/30/2010. Web. 30 Sep 2010. .
Who? Pedestrian’s safety is in dangers because of drivers of electric cars because they don’t make enough noise. NoViSim, EcTunes, and WMG are working together to put six sounds in the new electric cars to fix this problem. What? Electric car makers are putting different sounds in electric cars that will be the best for pedestrians to recognize. The sounds will allow pedestrians to know if the car is accelerating or going backwards. It will also tell pedestrians that the car is in their presence. When? There was a law passed in 2009 that has a minimum on the noise level that a car can make. This year they are doing more research to find which noise is the best to put in the electric car. Where? The study is being done in Europe where the electric cars are sold. Why? It has been noticed that electric cars barely make noise so for the safety of pedestrians the electric car companies are going to make the car make sounds. How? A study was done at a university and the students listened to the car as it circled the university. The study was to see which sound did the students associate with a car engine and which sound was the most responsive.
